Hello everyone,

First off, I completely understand this is not a supported device of 3CX and help with this is greatly appreciated.

I am working on provisioning a SPA 112 for the purpose of connecting a fire alarm to it. The fire system requires 2 lines. The 3CX instance is CLOUD HOSTED.

I have added the two extensions like normal into 3CX. I launched the Cisco configuration and entered in the:
. Proxy - 3CX Server IP
. User ID - Set to the extension number
. Auth ID - Set to the auth user
. Password - Set to the auth password

Set the following settings to:

. Network Jitter Level: very high
. Jitter Buffer Adjustment: no

. Call Waiting Serv: no
. Three Way Call Serv: no

. Preferred Codec: G711u
. Use Pref Codec Only: Yes
. FAX Passthru Method: ReINVITE
. Echo Canc Enable: no
. FAX Enable T38: yes
. FAX Tone Detect Mode: callee
. FAX T38 ECM Enable: yes
. Silence Supp Enable: no

The Dial Plan has not been modified from the default of:
(*xx|[3469]11|0|00|[2-9]xxxxxx|1xxx[2-9]xxxxxxS0|xxxxxxxxxxxx.)

I have loaded the latest version of firmware onto the device provided by Cisco. I have attempted to make connection but the device does not show up on the Phones page and on the device it shows the Registration State as failed.

I currently only have the 1 line enabled for right now, I will activate the second once the first is done. I am unable to obtain a provisioning template as the device is not support but after reading a dozen posts and articles, it seems like it's entirely possible to use this device. Unfortunately, it cannot be added as a FXS because of the lack of support.

Any ideas on what the problem may be and potential work arounds are extremely appreciated.

I don't recall having to use the Auth ID, just the User (extension number) and Password.

That said...are you expecting to use these for a connection to a modem on the alarm system? I see you have modified the fax settings. Since 3CX does not support remote Fax devices unless over VPN, those settings should be left as default. They won't help if you are attempting to use a data modem. Running any sort of data service over VoIP is going to be tricky. If it is only, something like 1200, or 2400 bps, then it might work. It may not, however, be reliable, and you want reliable on an alarm system.

It should still register if the server information is correct and there are no local port conflicts, with other devices, at the remote site. You may also have to enable STUN if you haven't yet.

Check the 3CX Activity Log, to see if there is any sign of a registration. If not, then the 112 is not set to register to the correct location. If you have set it to use an FQDN, try the IP instead. If that works, then be sure the gateway and DNS server are set correctly in the ATA, as it may not be able to resolve the FQDN.

A long time ago 3CX had guides. This is a copy of their 3102 setup guide that I pulled from the wayback machine a few years ago. I've followed this for 112's without an issue, using them for Fax and Overhead's.

Bad formatting, because copy/paste sucks.

Configuring Linksys SPA 3102 to send Fax with 3CX

IMPORTANT This guide has been tested with firmware version 5.1.10 (GW). Be aware that different firmware revisions may have different web interface formats and functionality.

1. Follow the Steps described in the following administration guide: http://www.3cx.com/voipgateways/linksys3102.html The Steps needed for this implementation are numbers 2 to 7 only. This will guide you in configuring the SPA3102 on your network and assigning it an IP address to make it accessible for configuration.
2. Update the Linksys to the firmware 5.1.10(GW). Do not use a later version than this.
3. Enable Line 1 to register the ATA with 3CX Click on the Line 1 Configuration tab. Under Network Settings configure the following: a) Network Jitter Level – Very High b) Jitter Buffer Adjustment – Disable. Enable Line and configure Jitter settings for Fax sending

4. Proxy, Registration settings and Subscriber Information. Note that you have to add an extension in the 3CX Phonesystem. In this example, extension 118 was added on the 3CX Phonesystem. 3CX resides on a machine with the IP address of 10.172.0.2.

5. Supplementary ServicesApply the following modifications: a) “Call Waiting Serv” : Set this to No b) “Three Way Call Serv” : Set this to No as well.
6. Audio Configurationa) Set the PreferredCodec to G711u b) Set “Silence Suppression Enable” to No c) Make sure that the option FAX Enable T38 is set to Yes. (Default setting is Yes) d) “Echo Canc Enable” should be set to No e) Set the option “Fax Passthru Method” to REINVITES.

7. Connect the Fax Machine to the PHONE PORT in the Linksys SPA 3102. You should hear a dial tone as soon as you lift up the Fax Handset. Also the extension representing the ATA i.e. 118 should show as registered on the 3CX Phone System Line Status.
8. Make some calls from a sip phone registered on 3CXto the ATA FAX extension and vice versa from the Fax machine (which is now a “SIP PHONE”) to the extension to make sure that you have both way audio and that functionality is as expected. If the call ends in a busy tone, please go to (signed on as admin and in advanced mode) voice > line 1 and to the end of the page add to the Dial Plan “(xx.)” without the brackets. Repeat the test form point 8 to confirm both way audio.
9. At this point you can proceed to test Fax sending functionality. Send a fax from the fax machine. Remember to insert the appropriate prefix if required.

Note If you will be using a VoIP provider to receive faxes via the Linksys 3102 (note that only a limited number of VoIP providers properly implement fax), then you need to do the following:
1. Stop 3CX Fax Service and disable the service
2. Set the Linksys 3102 ATA to register to the extension 888 (step 4) and fill in the password and authentication ID accordingly to the fax settings in the 3CX management console. Default password is 888
3. Ensure that in the 3CX Management Console > Settings > Advanced > “Custom Parameter” the entry “Fax direct SDP” is set to 1.
4. Configure NAT settings: http://www.3cx.com/blog/releases/3cxfaxupdate11344/
