cloud+sbc vs on premise 3cx

Hi all,
why would one choose to install 3cx on premise instead of in the cloud with a sbc on premise?

3cx in the cloud + SBC makes firewall config easier and its easier to configure extra remote stun clients.
Managment is easier, less downtime (Google for ex. probably has less downtime then your local isp)
Google cloud for 3cx looks free for small usage (5-10 3cx clients)
any (dis)advantages i am missing?

No wrong or right answer - use the system you are comfortable in managing.

Purely down to the system in question.

If your install is for phones of 50 + handsets then I would deploy on premise (as 50 is the limit of a single SBC) You can double up SBC's to increase the limit but this adds to hardware and costs and even in this situation if the customer still insisted on hosted I would probably opt for a VPN connection instead.

I would also go hosted when possible. I normally use STUN for >5 users, SBC up to about 30 and VPN after that. This is good for DR because if the broadband goes down people can still use there mobile apps on 4G/3G without any disruption to the business.

On premises is less flexible with upgrading resource at the click of a button when the company grows. Hosted is defiantly easier to manage and more secure from a firewall point of view as all you need to do is setup a VPN or an SBC. This leave a lot less ports open to the outside world.

@Rhys Haskell just an FYI for you but 3CX now only recommend 1-2 phones per site now for STUN:

I would probably agree with this figure as I have had very mixed results with STUN as you probably know the network setup can have a massive effect on the behaviour of these phones.

To be fair as long as its a small customer we never really have issues with STUN. If we manage the network we would put 3 on STUN normally, but then if they grew by a couple of users as they do we would probably keep them on STUN unless they went above 5. If we dont manage the network then we would put an SBC in.

I would probably recommend that you use Raspi or Linux SBC as I find them more stable.

Windows is fine but the OS needs to be configured properly so that it does not go to sleep, try and download updates or reboot etc.
