Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong forum but wanted to ask if anyone can confirm how one can set a code priority list for Conference calls. I have v18 installed on a Raspberry Pi 4 and have set the Global Codec priority to G722, G729 and G711 (when on wifi/local network) and G729, G722 and G711 (when on 3g/4g). Whether I start an impromptu conference call from the Windows app or my Android app, the conference call quality is fair bit inferior as compared to a 1-on-1 call. On v16, I think I recall seeing an option in the Settings to upgrade to a better audio codec for Conference calling but that required a paid/pro license.

Is that still the case now? I'm currently using the free 3cx license and wouldn't mind paying if I can upgrade the call quality of conference calls, irrespective of where the conference is initiated from (e.g. from a Smartphone or Windows app).

Would appreciate any guidance! Thanks in advance.

Hi @jrpipers,

I don't believe this was a option on our PBX.

Can you change the Codec priority on the apps to G711-U first? Then reprovision the extensions and give it another try?

Hi Vasilis, thanks for your response! I'll give that a try and will report back. And thanks for correcting, perhaps I must've misread the setting.

But can 3CX host a conference call with a G722 or G729 codec? Or can it only use G711-U for conference calls?

Apologies, if I'm getting some of the terminology wrong, new to 3cx and the world of PBX!

It can use other codecs as well depending on the offer provided, which you can partially control with the Codec priority list in "Settings >> Codecs". I recommend testing a few different codecs as the first codec to see if you notice an improvement with any.

Note: I recommend keeping the same order for both LAN and WAN lists. Also bear in mind that 3CX Apps need to reprovision for the changes to apply, re-launching them should do the trick if you have this setting enabled on the extension in question:
