If you have more than a couple of sets, at a remote location, behind the same router, you are more than likely to have some issues. When a remote set registers, it is seen by the PBX as PublicIP & port. So, one set,. is generally no problem, with two sets, or more, each has to be assigned a unique port number so they do not appear identical to the PBX.
That is for the signalling part.
The Voice packet ports can also be an issue, depending on your router. Some can keep them straight, and send the correct packets to the correct phone, others will just cause one way, or "no audio", issues.
The SBC is the solution to this, that is why it's there.
