Hello,

Due I have already purchased License, I want to use it. I decide to do fresh install with new FQDN and Key (cause I can't just replace the key).

I make backup with hope to easy restore in new FQDN but something gone wrong.

During fresh install - PBX is older version then Backup and won't restore.

after setup fresh, and then restore from console I have error : "
This backup 'Migration_Backup-17.04.2026.zip' contains a different license key or a different FQDN than the one you used to install 3CX.
To use this backup, you need to reinstall 3CX and restore this backup at installation time."

what do I do?

Normally the FQDN and license is part of the backup, and restored to the new server. Keys can't be replaced.

re: versions, backups can restore to the same or a later version PBX. If you had, for instance, upgraded PBX1 to v20 update 9 alpha, then you will need to upgrade PBX2 to update 9 alpha before restoring to it.

Thank you SteveI. How make same version, I download the iso and install and is older, then my backup. how to update during installation?

older pbx FQDN was : fixitge
newer pbx FQDN is : fixitgeo (cause fixitge is used already (lol))

Finally, I make upgrade on stage :5015 and make newest version on PBX. But when I restore backup, FQDN and License Key is restored also and Overwritten.

I need to use my free license for this PBX. :/ it seems only one way is to renew existing key. :/

@GabrielaS_3CX may you can help me regarding this case?

This is normal as @SteveITS already said. The key and fqdn is part of the backup. If you want to restore to a diffent licence and fqdn you need to adjust the backup file. You will find all infos in the forum to do this.

Edited in 7zip, winscp up the archive tried a reinstall and still get this error:

This backup contains a different license key or FQDN than the one you used to install 3CX. To use this backup, you need to reinstall 3CX and restore this backup at installation time.

Than you missed something... Fqdn and licence need to be edited.

Same license checked the file FQDN matches the new FQDN and license is the same and correct.

Besides the xml file where else could the info be that's creating the error, normally restores are a breeze?

@bitn2 Thank You!!!! You were right we did a search and replace the FQDN but there was one entry that needed to be edited that we discovered after digging a bit more. For folks in the same situation make sure your <domainCode> is correct the syntax as it doesn't follow normal FQDN nomenclature.
