Configuring a static MAC address for VM

The instructions for setting up the new version 14 as a VM under Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V indicates a need to configure the VM with a static MAC address. I have been running 3CX in a VM this way for a few years using a dynamic MAC address and no issues. Is this static requirement really necessary as I tried switching the VM to static and it was not allowed?

Configuring a static Mac address is very important for the licensing that the MAC address of the host is a constant value beside it’s internal IP address
