Connecting 3CX to a Radio System

Hello everyone,
3Cx v16.0.8.9 on a Windows Server 2019 Standard box on prem (well actually in a data centre 5 miles away)

So one of our departments here uses radios for their enforcement officers who go out and about, and they want to connect their 3Cx extensions to the radio system so calls can go to their radios.
The radio system is by 2CL and is called TRBONet.

Here is an email I received from them...

"Thanks for your observations regarding 3CX / Radio system.

We haven’t connected to 3CX before, so I can’t be sure of the best way to go about it, but we’ve done quite a few of these with different systems and they all have their own individual challenges.

Are we sure that 3CX will definitely only work with phones from their list?

The system we are proposing uses a Windows server-based application which accepts generic SIP extensions and routes them out to the radios as required, so 3CX will just see us as series of generic SIP phones. Provided we have the 3CX server address and the username and password for each extension it ‘should’ go unless they have done something to specifically block non-approved phones.
The other workaround we’ve used in the past is for the telephone system to be provisioned with a generic SIP trunk, which we then connect to a software- based PBX on our server to then provide the individual extensions for the radio system. If we can set up a trunk on 3CX, that could be another option.
Let me know your thoughts."


So my question is would it be the generic SIP trunk option they mention, that would be the best way to go?
If so, are there any instructions for setting up a generic SIP trunk? I can only see how to set up a trunk to an actual sip provider.

Or is there a better option?

We have not integrated to this system either so compatibility is something we cannot guarantee. But you can add generic extensions to 3CX and register non supported phones as long as those are SIP compatible.
You can also go the trunk route. You can add a Generic trunk by selecting the "Generic" option in the countries drop down menu.
From there on you will need to configure the rest.
