I want to set up a simple IVR menu with routing for closed, holidays etc. but have noticed there are two ways of doing this. Which is the preferred moving forward and what are the differences?

1. Call Handling > Add Digital Receptionist. I can then set a DID for this in here, and adjust the routing destinations. Bearing in mind I have to assign this to a department which controls the Office Hours.
2. Create a department first, adjust the office hours, go to Call Handling, find the department (prefixed with GRPxxxx), then assign the DID in there and then control what happens when the office is open, closed etc?

The two don't appear to reference each other. I went with option 1, created a digital receptionist, assigned the department and changed it so that when the office is closed it plays an announcement and ends the call. I've noticed that in the same Call Handing section, I can go to the department instead (GRP0001 in this case) and configure the closed office routing in there too, online it doesn't appear to do anything as it's not currently configured. I assigned the DID to the Digital Receptionist as opposed to the department.

Which is 'best practice'?

Both options are correct however this can also be configured with the Call Processing Script as described here.
Ensure also that you are on the latest update of V20.
