Hi,

3CX v18 update 8 128 SC, Enterprise Self Hosted - I know we really need to upgrade but have logistic issues getting the ESXi host upgraded first...

A few questions on this topic:
1) I've seen mention that using Custom Templates could possibly result in support issues. If we use a 3CX custom template with two specific snom D735 phones, would our entire 3CX system be unsupported or just the two phones that we use the custom template with? I would assume the latter but in worst case, could we remove the custom template and be fully supported again?

2) I've copied the default snom D735 template to create a new custom one. In the custom template, I've added two lines, which the snom support website says are needed to implement the hotphone. By hotphone, I mean a phone that is programmed to dial a specific number when it goes off-hook. A typical usage example would be a hotel lobby phone that is programmed to automatically dial the hotel operator. I know I can accomplish this with an analog phone on an ATA, but this customer has D735 phones and is opposed to buying an analog phone and ATA.

The issue I'm running into is I put these lines in the custom template in the appropriate language section (English US):

1

1234

After I save the custom template, restart the MC service, add a snom D735 using the custom template as a lobby phone, and finally reboot the lobby phone to download the config, the phone shows in the MC as running the custom template. However, when look at the phone's +Config, only the Auto_dial parameter is present. Without the auto_dial_target parameter, the phone just gives dialtone when the phone goes off-hook.

3) Continuing the above config scenario, when I look at the custom template, I see the above settings. After the MC service restart, If I pull the +Config from phone using the MC, the auto_dial parameter has an unexpected value:
<auto_dial perm="">%%auto_dial%%</auto_dial>
I expected to see the auto_dial parameter set as 1, but it shows %%auto_dial%% . Where does this come from? How do I set it to get the desired value for this parameter?

I've got a similar question in to snom but hope someone on here has dealt with this before.

Thanks in advance,

I found the solution to #2 and #3 above. Still interested in finding out the degree of being unsupported if we use a custom template: will there be no support on the 3CX system at all or just no support on the custom template?

In case you need to open a case with 3CX Support, they may ask you to revert the phones back to the official templates and see if you can still replicate the problem your were facing.

So you might want to do that ahead of time before contacting them, and in that case I don't think there will be a problem.

Thanks @JohnS_3CX... I was hoping that'd be the case. We're on the verge of setting up a development instance of our 3CX so going forward I'll be able to try stuff like this there.
