I have noticed that after upgrading to v20 some items like ring groups, queues, and digital receptionist may be missing the "Department" field. As with other changes from version to version in 3CX, until we click an item there is no obvious indication or report showing settings that may be missing or need to be addressed. The same is also true of the field Link Name for 3CX Talk.

If this is a required field and you cannot add or edit an item without selecting a department; how is the system functioning without filled in to begin with? What department is selected when the call flow requires this for routing or office hours, etc?

The upgrade process from one version to the next is relatively straight forward and trouble free over the years I am thankful to say. However I find it strange that an upgraded system can be operational without having complete data filled in for call handling entries.

A report of things that need to be reviewed after the upgrade would be a good place to start, even an email after the upgrade with the upgrade log and a list of objects that have errors or warnings. Maybe even a visual indication in the list that the item is incomplete.

I want to be sure that the systems I manage are operating properly and efficiently.

In order to avoid the issue with the 3CX Talk names missing, you will need to give the users, queues, IVRs, etc., their 3CX Talk-friendly names from under the admin console in v18 before you update to v20.

Additionally, with the departments, the queues, ring groups, or IVRs need to have been created in the Admin console in v18 to assign them to a group, which will be kept and transferred to the department upon updating to v20.

If these are created in the management console and cannot be deleted, so they can be recreated via the v18 admin console and assigned to a group first; then, once updated to v20, you will need to assign them to a department.

Thank you for the quick response. Where do I find a way to identify all these issues to correct before moving to v20?

And for systems already updated to v20, how are they functioning if they do not have this department value filled in? Does the system guess at how to handle a call or does it fall back to something else?

Todd.
