Hello all;

We run a call center of about 100people, and over the past year or so been using 3cx. Doing so has allowed us to make the decision of becoming to allow our employee's the opportunity to just stay at home. In fact we are in talks of going 100% remote, selling the large building we have and down sizing!

We do have a 3cx partner, but we are also IT professionals ourselves, so we do a lot of the work on our own. I've been thinking about taking the 3cx classes etc.

At anyrate, our partner is wanting to upgrade us to version 18. In the process of doing this, they wish to change our hosted URL. Which is fine, but as we all know, that means a reprovisioning of the clients. That's easy. Everyone is using Version 16 of the Windows Client. We have 0 desire to allow them to use the webclient.

Doing some testing, we do know (and i've read here) that the v16 client works fine with the v18 server software. That's awesome.... that buys us time, because. I have found 0 way to automate the provisioning of the Desktop App w/o the users logging into the Webclient and going through the steps.

It doesn't look like the Desktop App will read the config files that you get in the email :(.

I did however, find out that if I look at a browser debugger on a machine w/o the client, I can see the url that is trying to be accessed. It looks like this: tcx+app:HTTPS://AREALITYPBX.3CX.US:5001/P/12313131/1231231231312 or there abouts. I can run the 3cxdesktopapp.exe with the following and it will provision just fine from a Dos prompt(IE: 3CXDesktopApp.exe tcx+app:HTTPS://AREALITYPBX.3CX.US:5001/P/12313131/1231231231312) The problem is, how do I extract that url for EVER user?

I really hope that 3Cx automates a way to provision the Desktop app. Being a call center we can't afford for the phones to be down, and trying to walk 100 people through that the Monday morning after the v18 upgrade is a no go. And asking them/contacting them over the weekend after the upgrade is a no go, because they are Hourly Employee's.

Any insight please? Or any suggestions that I might be missing?

Thank you!

Hi @wangel81,

The only way I can think of is to get the QR Code Link one by one, then script it as you wish. I'm afraid there is no list of the codes to extract.

The easiest way I can think of is to install the Desktop app via GPO and have the users provision themselves via the Web Client since it's only 2 clicks.

they wish to change our hosted URL
Can I ask what their logic is for this? An in-place upgrade doesn't change the hostname. If it is being moved to a new server the license+hostname should follow with the restore...?

Right now our hosted url is xxxx.partner.us, The cert expires every 90days (I assume because they are using LetsEncrypt). They want to change it to a 3cx managed url.... like my test/free system at home is hostname.3cx.us, so they don't have to deal with the cert.

Ah, I see. Perhaps you could convince them to let you pay for a 1 year cert?

I suppose the long term "pro" of changing to a 3CX hostname is that it would be easier to leave the partner...
