Double registration!? Why?

How come it is possible to register 2 sip clients (as 3cx voip phone v4) with absolutely identical user and pass, but on a different pc's in the same lan network???
Both 3cx soft phones says that they are On Hook, and both can send and receive calls. When receiving a call, they both ring at the same time, but only after one is picked up, the other says Call Ended!
Strange, or completely normal?

This is normal. Most, but not all VoIP systems/Providers will allow multiple appearances with exactly the same datafill (phone number, user name and password). If, in 3CX (the extension datafill) you set the busy status to be by the set and not the PBX, they then should then be able to call each other and the second appearance should be able to receive a call when the other set is busy. 3CX (and any VoIP provider) keeps track of them based on their IP and port number, that it receives when the device registers. Of course that info has to be unique for each device.

This allows you to have an extension at a fixed location (office, home) and the same extension number such as a softphone on your laptop when travelling.. Or...a multi key business VoIP phone with more than one key appearance of the same extension number, allowing you to put one call on hold and take a second call to the same extension number.
