I tried out some Fanvil phones for a while and noticed that quite a few people with whom I'd speak, told me that they could hear a 'bad echo'.

While I have had some 'echoing' with Yealink phones, it's very very rare.

Has anyone else experience this problem with Fanvil phones?

Hi John,

While using various models from Fanvil on a daily basis for testing, we haven't really noticed such issues.

I can't help but wonder if there are certain conditions that generate the echo for the specific individuals you mentioned.

If you have a sure-fire way of replicating this, let us know and we can take a look.

This doesn't happen all the time, so it's hard to replicate it 'at will'. But, it definitely is a problem on the X210 that I've been trying. I just picked up a call a little while ago on the X210. The other party told me that they could hear themselves quite a bit (and this was an IT guy). I parked the call and picked it back up on my Yealink T54W. The 'echo' was gone.

Any headsets, EHS, bluetooth devices being used that could be introducing it?

Any manual changes perhaps to the microphone sensitivity (stuff that "strays" from the factory default) ?

Does it go away when speakerphone mode is activated and immediately returns when going back to handset mode?

If the call is being recorded, do you perhaps hear the echo in the recording?

No headsets or any other such devices.
No changes in microphone sensivity.
I'm sorry, I didn't specify. The problem is when on speakerphone. The problem does not occur with handset.

I have not checked recordings.

Ah I see, then it's more of a combination of luck / room shape / background noise / and the specific DSP used by the phone.

The mic is here on this model, if your user is closer to this area and they reduce the speaker volume a little, the echo will eventually be detected and suppressed.

Feel free to contact Fanvil about it and see if they have any suggestions, but the nature of the beast is such that you will never get it 100% perfect I'm afraid

Perhaps a combination of repositioning the phone and adjusting the volume a bit might be enough to trigger the echo suppression when the remote party complains about echo.

Thanks for the suggestions, John. This all makes sense. I've never experienced this problem with the Yealink. Any time that there's an echo (and it's VERY rare), it's been on the "called party's" end (so not the Yealink). I'm spoiled with the Yealink.

I'll contact Fanvil about this. They need to re-engineer this a bit to improve it.

Does the echo occur on both internal and external calls, or just one type of call?

Nor sure. I'll do some testing to see what I can determine.

If it is the far end that is hearing echo (hearing themselves), then it will usually mean that their incoming level (on a trunk, or to the set) is to "hot" to be "taken care of" with any echo suppression, at your end, if set-up correctly.

If the calls were coming in on an analogue trunk (gateway), where it were possible to add a db or two of padding (incoming), as a test, then I would suggest doing that.

This is using a SIP trunk into 3CX. And the level of audio from the other end (the end hearing the echo) sounds fine on the Fanvil. So far, it appears that Fanvil phones just don't do as good of a job with echo cancellation as compared to Yealink.

I'm bringing this discussion 'back to life'. I'm trying out the Fanvil X210 again and, again, having complaints of echo on the other end when I'm using speakerphone on the X210. I never had this problem with a Yealink phone, sitting in the same location on my desk. In fact, I just received a call from a 3CX tech support person regarding another matter. He was using a headset and asked me to switch to handset because he was hearing such a bad echo. With the Yealink phones, I never had to mess around with positioning the phone differently or adjusting speaker or microphone levels on the phone. There just isn't any echo on the other party's end.

Has anyone else experienced this problem with Fanvil phones?

I'm also at a site with fanvil echo but only when using the fanvil usb ht201. anyone calling one of the users that have headsets get echo. internal, external just the same. when they sack the usb headset the calls are fine with handset and speakerphone. its a new site, all up to date using latest 3cx fw for the fanvil x4u-v2 phones. such a weird one. we also have a couple of wireless headsets bluetooth and old plug (is that ehs?) and no issues. just the fanvil headsets for the fanvil phones. not something i had anticipated an issue with lol.
