I just watched the webinar for the upcoming features of ELIN and ELR. Seems easy enough for the implementation. the only time where this setup of extensions transmits E911 DID and that is attached to the office / floor / building location doesn't work correctly is when the extension is being used via the webclient or 3cx app on a phone. As we have many people now working remotely for example, they are all using the webclient and/or 3cx app on their phone from home. If they would dial 911 from it it will transmit the office location which is obviously not correct. Even in the setup possibilities we have today that is the case. So it is not a new problem.

I don't really have a solution to solve this issue. I also don't know how this might affect legal requirements.

Anyone thought about this?

As it says in the video @ about 4:20 https://www.3cx.com/blog/vlog/erl-elin-kari-e911-regulation/ ...the customer is required to update the information. So if employees are now working from a home address, it is up to you to make sure that the former work location, of their extension, has been changed. The system is only as good as the location information you have put in , or provided to the local emergency services. Obviously, with the current situation, with many people no longer going into the office, this can mean a lot of work.

If I was at home working, I would use my mobile to call emergency services and not via 3cx.

One - you can move around and get out the house if you have to.
Second - if you get cut off, there can call you back directly,

Yes I understand that is the common sense thing to do. But in case of an emergency common sense is in short demand. I am going just through the possible scenarios. And there could be cases where your cell phone might not work but the webclient does work.

that is not a feasible solution. You cannot update the E911 location every time you move from office to home and vice versa. And that doesn't cover the problem with a 911 call made from the 3CX app on the phone.

My point is: next to the obvious problematic that a person calling 911 in an already stressful emergency situation would have to remember that their location might not be correctly transmitted, are we getting into a legal situation because our systems transmitted potentially the wrong location?

I think I just found a solution to this problem.
There is a service called https://www.redskye911.com/ that keeps track of locations regardless what was used. Now the question is if it will work with 3CX. Will have to investigate.

Unfortunately, that is the issue that haunts all VoIP users. If the set is moved, the database must be changed to reflect the new address. If it cannot be done (the phone is not always at one location) then many (providers) will simply not offer 911 service.
A mobile phone will use either GPS (if enabled), or (less accurate)cell tower location, if the call is placed using the mobile service. The 3CX App cannot make use of location services, at least, at this time.
