As of yesterday, I proved this is not actually doing what it appears to be doing.
While pack-to-packet bridging is enabled, apparently Asterisk is transcoding the call not just once, but twice.
"g729 show licenses" shows 2 licenses being used per call instead of the normal 1.
And running "module unload codec_g729a.so" prevents the call from being able to be completed.
I still looking for a way to accomplish this.
