I am new to 3cx and I got this request for one of our clients.
1. They need the internal numbers only to make internal calls? - I assume it is allowed already be default? like extension to extension?
2. If an external number called them (I assume numbers that were not part of their extensions) it will be routed to a specific ring group - How can I filter an incoming call and identify it as external?

Hi @aliza.skye

1. This is enabled by default so all extensions can call other extensions. To stop them from making external calls you will need to limit them from the systems outbound rules.
2. Calls from external numbers come from SIP Trunk providers or gateways. Their routing is handled in the trunk level or in the inbound rules level so you can easily route a call coming from those sources to the ring group.

Before doing any of these however I would recommend looking at our academy section to get a general ideal of how the system works and what functionality it provides.

how can I filter the calls from "External" number that is calling our SIP trunk? Because they have external staff with extension that are calling their SIP trunk as well. So basically, I need to filter inbound calls that are coming from external number (numbers that is not part of their DID or extension) if that make sense. sorrry

Their internal staff should be using the 3CX apps for iOS or Android so their calls would basically be extension to extension calls.
If they are calling from their mobile phones directly through the SIP Trunk then you can set up CID rules and route based on their caller IDs.

So when their caller ID is detected they can be routed based on the CID rule you created

When you create a trunk that has DID rules assigned to handle those numbers, you also specify a default route. This route will take any call that does not match a DID rule. So, while you can pick out specific calling numbers based on their caller ID (as suggested above), and send them to specific destinations, any "other" number will already go to the trunk default route. That route could be an IVR to offer a choice of destination, or simply route to a ring group or extension.
