We recently had issues with our power supply and broadband lines to our office, which meant our phone system was unreachable.

We want to put a fail over server in place (probably within our Cloud VLAN) which would be an duplicate of our system that we could switch to in event of issues at our office. The only difference would be that it use only our VOIP lines not our ISDN lines.

The two systems would never run at the same time, it would be one or the other, are we ok to use our one 3CX licence on both installs?

Gary.

While this is by no means an "official" response as it pertains to your particular scenario, the following leads me to believe it highly likely that 2 licenses will be required.

You could conceivably uninstall from the one and reinstall on the other, but you then run the risk that the change in IP and MAC may trigger the 3CX licensing services to render the license back to a free edition, which is what happens when they detect too many changes. You would then need to call into 3CX and explain your situation and hope that they re-activate.

As the IP (both private and public) could be duplicated, it is the unique MAC of each device that would require you to purchase a second licence. If the server itself could be set-up to be more robust, then enabling a second trunk route, and switching to it, would not be a big issue.

Perhaps the "Redundancy Product", that Nick refers to in this thread, will be out soon.

Since I don't think most of you can see that post since it is linked from the partners section, here is what leejor is referring to:

A special redundany product is coming very soon, just a month or so away. It will be easy install to achieve an active passive setup which can automatically switch if the active server goes down. watch our blog- details coming soon...
