Failed to activate

Adding myself to the apparent long list of people this disaster is affecting.
My system was set to auto-update, clearly it did not do so.
Ping and dns both work fine, I need a way to install the certificate or the update manually. I'm not interested in doing a full backup/reinstall/restore that many of the commenters are recommending. There's gotta be an easier way.

Since you're running Debian you could try updating from the command line:

1. Log in with the root account,
2. Run the command apt-get update , and once it's finished,
3. Run the command apt-get upgrade

If (when) you get a list of items to install, just hit Enter and let the system do the rest. It would be a good idea to reboot the computer once the updates are installed.

No go. There were a few system updates but it still won't activate or update.


At this point I'll probably have to bail on 3cx altogether. Breaking every single existing install like this is frankly an embarrassment. I use a single line and handle about 5 calls a month tops on a self hosted install. It's simply a way to answer my cell calls on the desktop when I'm home. Abandoning free teir rather than decreasing the limits and making the cheapest option more expensive than a land line per month is just so out of touch its not even funny.

Switching to cloud hosting defeats the purpose and its not worth 13$/month for the software when I only pay 2$ for the entire voip line and all the calls

What version of 3CX are you on and what platform?

I can't tell you why it didn't auto-update since u5 (released in September) but the full reinstall should take ~15 minutes and will solve it and bring everything back to the way it should be. I don't have any other ideas on how to get it activated again, though I have to wonder if you need to.

I assume you are using 4SC Free and I thought a failed activation just makes the PBX revert to 4SC Free anyways.

It has actually and verifiably broken many installations. 3CX is designed to be upgraded via the management console which allows us to run our pre-flight checks.

Sometimes we see admins making seemingly harmless changes to the system which are later forgotten, but unfortunately they can cause unexpected situations in the future.

We would like to avoid these issues as much as possible, so we recommend to redeploy our latest ISO on a fresh VM / machine using your latest backup. If you keep your LAN IP the same, you should be up and running in under 30 mins.
