Fanvil V66 Pro Template soon?

Just picked up a box of v66 Pro units for an upcoming project and just realized there is not a 3CX template in the system yet. I know, my bad for not checking. I have it connected and working as a v65, but just curious when we can expect to see the V66 listed in the drop-down?

My guess is that we will be waiting a long time. I *think* the difficulties are with the web page used to define the softkeys and the existing code that creates the XML configuration file.

The V66 Pro offers 116 softkeys. It's probably impractical to define so many using 3CX's existing web page, because it would have to be at least six pages long. So the web page would probably have to be reworked to accommodate that number of keys in a more reasonable manner. Another alternative - which I would prefer - would allow importing a text, CSV or XML file defining the softkeys and not use the web page at all.

The second problem is easier to solve. It involves the sofkey hierarchy in the configuration file. 3CX allows the user to define as many softkeys as they want. The algorithm responsible for translating the defined keys in the XML configuration file *appears* (I could be wrong) to have two levels of hierarchy: The first XX softkeys (XX depends upon the make and model of the phone) are configured as conventional softkeys. The remainder are defined as "side keys", as if they are on a sidecar or DSS. On the V66 Pro, that algorithm would have to accommodate three levels of hierarchy: softkeys on the home screen, the page number (1 through 4) and then the key number (1 through 29) on the selected page. It seems like changing the algorithm could be done pretty easily, but the existing templates are already very complex. So I think it would be difficult to add the V66 Pro to the existing Fanvil template file, thereby mixing phones with one, two and three levels of softkeys. It might require a template dedicated to the V66 Pro.

With all of that said, the V66 Pro is my favorite phone. They offer a modern design, high-quality display and terrific audio quality compared to the competition. I'm using them in my own office and for demo purposes by starting with a configuration file generated for the V65 and then manually edited for the V66 Pro softkeys. I define the phones manually as "I will configure the phone myself".

That approach means that users cannot change the softkey definitions themselves, but that hasn't been an issue so far.

I have developed a working template for the Fanvil V66 Pro that correctly handles all 127 function keys. The template still needs additional clean up work, but I have it working successfully on our internal phones now.

Nothing beyond my post on Oct 05: I have a working template for the Fanvil V66 Pro. I am using that template with our internal phones now and I'm confident enough in it that I would deploy it to customer's systems.

I don't recall ever posting in this forum at all, may I please ask what steps I need to undertake to grab a copy of your template? My setups are basic, just BLF keys in the portal for each extension, and I generally discourage user-generated entries, of any type.

Most of the V6 series work well as SBC phones, I believe there were some issues with the V64's and not enough memory on board but we have plenty of customers using V66 Pro's as SBC's and even V62G's at smaller sites.

We have 1 customer using a V62Pro as an SBC but it's the only handset on site so doesn't have much load behind it.
