It seems that the firmware on the phones I have is a rev below the required firmware for 3CX. I have downloaded the correct file and now have tried to load it via the Raspberry Pi server (houses 3CX) a Linux laptop (Ubuntu) and also a Windows 10 desktop... each time the firmware failed to install. Anyone have any suggestions? Honestly I believe finding a phone for this system is a crap shoot. Would love to get at least ONE phone to work on this system.

Hi @texmansru47

Please tell us the exact firmware version that your phone currently has

Presently it has the follow: 2.0.3.3049. I have downloaded the firmware from 3CX as well as two additional firmware files from FANVIL. None work.

Hi @texmansru47

Ok in this case you better contact Fanvil support or your phone reseller to provide you with assistance to quickly upgrade all of them in one go.

I think your existing firmware is too old, and the phone is refusing to accept the later versions.

great. Ok I will try that.

Let us know how it goes.

Also FYI, this is just something you need to do the first time. But once you are on the latest 3CX firmware, you can automatically deploy updates from your management console going forward.

Ok. I got the firmware to be upgraded,,, on the FANVIL 3S phone. It is at 2.12 now. Which is OVER the required firmware. I get the same DAMN ISSUES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am losing faith in this 3CX system. It will not ring the extension or the DID. WHY! I have an inbound rule and several outbound rules and this is truly just NOT WORKING!! I am frustrated with something that should be far more easy to setup (as the disclaimer all state).

I had to downgrade the firmware but I got the system to accept the phone FINALLY... BUT I can only call other extension from the phone. If I try to call the phone's extension or DID I get silence then after 20 second I get the prompt for Voicemail. I have inbound and outbound rules set. so WTF? Seriously! I have followed all the set up rules and I get crap in return. What step am I missing to get the flipping extensions to call the phone and the DID of the phone and the flipping phone FLIPPING RING!!!!!!!!!!! and answer the damn calls.

It sounds like you are having some issues that would not normally show up in a healthy installation.

This will usually hint to underlying network or server config issues that need to be diagnosed and corrected because such a long delay does not occur on the average installation unless there is something impeding the path of the phone, or something causing a delay on the server side.

At this point the best I can recommend is to find a 3CX Partner to help you out, since this kind of issue is not going to be easily resolved via the Forum. Take a look here for partners in your immediate area:

First I was told that it was because I had no inbound or outbound rules... I created them. Still nothing. When I installed the server (Raspberry Pi 4 with 64GB SD card) it installed without a single hitch. Everything else works... except when I add a physical VoIP phone. I get the firmware to manually install and the phone links up perfectly, outside of having to figure out 3CX works ONLY with one firmware for the phone I am using. What I am frustrated about is there are tons of videos where people just click 3 or 4 things connect the phone and BAM! And I am being told to set up a phone like you used to have back in the day before VoIP came along. I think it is something in the system not from the install or the phone. Now I have to pay some serious money to fix something that probably is minor and has to be changed on the system's settings.

Hi @texmansru47

As I mentioned before, this does not happen on a healthy installation.

By the way we do have another resource that you may find very useful, and I highly recommend it for anyone new to 3CX. If you want to DIY everything then you should definitely take advantage of our 3CX Academy. It's free and it will teach you all the fundamentals of 3CX, plus it includes a module for troubleshooting.

If you don't have the time for that, you can always rely on a 3CX Partner that already has the expertise to quickly detect what might have gone wrong and get you up and running fast.

So if the install goes perfectly and there are no errors how am I to accept it is a non-healthy installation? Just curious. I have been building machines and software for years... Usually, there are signs of an error in an installation or a problem (not seeing what you should, error messages, logging, etc). I thought it was the SIP trunks at first since Xfinity my ISP is bitching about the ports I have open. But when I first applied them, they worked and I could call the SIP Trunks from any cell phone on my system... the problem started when I started to add the phones (which was the reason to go this route). Are there logs from the installation I can review that maybe will show there was a problem as you mention?

Yes, there are logs via the Activity Log button on your Dashboard, and then there are settings in the logs to switch to Verbose mode for richer logs.

The logs may or many not show something of use depending on the case. I expect it will most likely confirm that the endpoint was not found/timed-out and the call was then send to voicemail, but it will not necessarily tell you why this happened. For that, you will need to be able to analyze network traffic, and have some knowledge of SIP (hence why I recommended a Partner in this case).

As for "serious money" that really depends on your perspective and what you value most:

1) "I'm a business and I need my phones up ASAP!" => Definitely use a partner, you pay and you get a service

2) "I just want to learn how to use the system, I'm not in a hurry" => Do the Academy course, and ask questions in the forums as you go. Look on the right column of this forum and sign up for upcoming free Webinars with our trainer.

So it comes down to making a decision at this point I think, and whichever way you choose we can help accordingly, but the forums are not meant to provide commercial grade support.

You guy state you do not provide commercial grade support. This is a home thing I am playing with to see if it is viable and comparable to another solution... for my personal use. I will start the academy... but all I am trying to say is generally when you do an installation... if there are issues or something that would cause an "unhealthy" installation it would have flagged me... and I got nothing. That is all I am saying.

Yep understood, and I suspect the issue is probably network-related so you might not have seen anything that stood out during the installation.

As for commercial-grade support, I meant specifically in the forum.
