Hi there,

we installed a Fanvil X7A ip-telephone with the 3CX certified firmware on it. The telephone worked so far. With this firmware the telephone crashes from time to time while pe making a call, tryiing to dail ... in different situations. Then we took the latest version of the firmware 2.6.0.125. From this time on the phone works stable but has some compatibility issues with the 3CX telephone software ... pe the time is not set correctly on the phone, after rebooting the 3CX telephone system the recognation of the phone in 3CX often takes more then 30 minutes to be back online ...

1.
Who has tested this telephone ... does this test only acknowledge that the phone (with this firmware) is compatible with telephone together with 3CX ... or also that the telephone works stable during the operation?!

2.
Which is the way to get information to the people, who are planning the tests for the integration of new software ... that they get this information?

3.
An actual list with correct operating ip telephones that the people are using outside and are happy with it (The 3CX recommended list has also the Fanvil X7A as a suggested phone on it!!!)

One week later we bought another Fanvil X7A phone. Tried the steps described before again ... with the same result. The recommended Firmware for this telephone crashed this phone the same way.

Please reproduce and fix this issue. It would be nice, if someone of the support staff could answer the questions maling it easier in future to handle such thing.

Kind regards

Tomas Schulz

Hi Tomas.

The answers to your questions are:

1. Fanvil makes the firmware and does the testing

2. The way is to contact Fanvil directly, they are responsible for the device QA testing and FW development

3. All phones are correctly operating in general, including the X7A sitting on my desk which has not crashed even once so far in months. This does not mean that yours won't, sometimes a phone may become unstable for other reasons ie. something on your network causes it to crash, or your PoE / PSU is not supplying enough power, or a user changed an option which caused unexpected instability, or simply the device is faulty (to say some of the many examples that could happen with any phone of any brand - not just this one).

Generally speaking, we would expect to have multiple complaints if this was such a problematic phone but we didn't.
I think that as a Fanvil customer yourself, you should also contact them and report any issues you face (especially the crashing!) because your personal feedback may be valuable to them in order to detect and solve the issue.

There are some issues with the X7A that are planned to be fixed with a new firmware update (ie. the date issue and some improvements, but I do not have an ETA yet).

We use these phones with an original external power supply each. We already reported the firmware bug to Fanvil. Hopefully that the result of it how to fix the error will also reach 3CX for inspection.

That's good to know, hopefully they will address it.

Just FYI, the model I'm testing is Hardware Revision 1.0

I'm curious if yours is different hardware revision.

I can also confirm issues with X7A out of the box yesterday off of an sbc. Can watch it provision then automatically a few seconds latter revert back to un-provisioned with 3cx logo remaining. I have attempted this several times same issue. Have factory reset a couple of times same result. Certainly don't want to have to manually provision.

Further The phone shows registered in 3CX but it is not on the phone:

Unfortunately I cannot replicate this behavior in V16 or V18A during testing. I have provisioned the phone multiple times in different scenarios but it never causes bad behavior so I can only speculate that there is either something different about your batch, or perhaps some other yet unknown factor at play. Just ensure you are not using any special characters in extension names or BLFs, that is not supported by Fanvil.

I think the manufacturer is planning a new firmware release fairly soon so you can either wait whenever that will be, or better yet report the issue directly to them (or via your reseller).

I filed a ticket with Fanvil. I then tried manually imputing autoprovsion url since it doesn't get saved on the phone via PNP and it does work temporarily I can see the phone provision then within seconds as evident by the blf the phone unregisters. I had an X4U on this same jack and sbc and it works fine. Stuck in a register unregister loop.

Oddly after plugging the phone in yesterday and working with trying to get provisioned since then with no success it is working now. Over the last 30 minutes it has stabilized and is remaining registered. I would say it was a network condition however other Fanvil, SBC, snoms, windows app, android app and web extension all were working just fine.
