I´ve been trying to configure my DID/Extension to answer automatically with FAX tone when a fax is received but not possible until now.

I have successfully tested sending faxes when I set an inbound rule that sends the call directly to fax extension (which is configured in settings>FAX)

But I when I do a voice call to the extension it answer with FAX tone.

How possible is to have a line for voice and fax and detect automatically voice or FAX?

What you are trying to do, is not possible I believe within 3cx

I think you are still thinking legacy technology, either a line for voice (trunk & standard extension) or FAX extension.

I am not sure what your use case is however please advise for further insight. FYI you can also use an FXS gateway such as a Patton to give you outbound FAX also: https://www.3cx.com/voip-gateways/

I don't want to plug a particular product, so this link is simply to provide an example of what is still available.

These devices used to be quite common when home or small businesses wanted to share the one phone line with a fax machine. Of course, they require that the incoming phone line (input) be analogue. You could set it to have PSTN in, then feed each line to a separate gateway trunk, one fax, the other voice, into 3CX. Probably less trouble to simply buy a second line.

I am a little bit confused with the 3CX comments in the following line:

No need for extra telephone lines – the same lines used for your voice communications are used by 3CX to receive faxes

This link contains that comment:

This is what makes me believe that all the lines can be: voice and FAX.

Hello @lvilleda

Please note that the 3CX PBX can only detect FAX if the call is sent to a FAX extension or the FAX server of the PBX. And although you can use the same lines as you had before to receives calls and FAX the detection is not automatic. You can receive calls if you point the number to a normal extension and you can receive FAX is you point the number to a FAX extension.

What I have done to solve this, create an IVR Press 1 to speak to person, Press 2 to send a fax. This works fine as long as the calling party knows about this first, otherwise it will not work.

Thank you all of you.
