file storage location for photos and attachments in chat feature

Where are files/photos stored on the 3CX server related to chat messages ? Is there a way to manage those ? I was thinking about using that feature to allow our employees to exchange videos from their mobile phones, but I don't want the server to run out of storage.

Regarding your question, the chat attachments are stored on the 3cx system machines in the locations.

C:\ProgramData\3CX\Instance1\Data\Chat - for Windows-based OS installs
and
/var/lib/3cxpbx/Instance1/Data/Chat - for Linux-based installations.

Is there any auto-purge feature or will they hang around forever ?

Yes, there are purge options under the management console > Reporting> Chat Logs node (when enabled under the dashboard > PBX status section > Chat logs), and they can be set to auto-clean from the Chat logs settings or chosen to purge with filters
