“18.0 Update 3 Final” has arrived. Currently it is scheduled to be automatically installed this weekend. However the description mentions the following: “Updates including 3CX supported firmwares for your existing IP Phones, language files, PUSH certificates and sip trunk templates will be applied automatically”. Does this mean the update also forces our IP phones to update to the latest firmware?

Currently we are using older -but stable- firmware on our Yealink phones. Under no circumstances do I want new firmware to be installed.

This is the first time I've come across this, and I want to be sure this won't happen.

Hi,

No it will not be installed automatically.

Firmware is automatically downloaded on your machine, however you will need to deploy it manually from the management console, under the Phones page, using the "Firmware+" button otherwise the phones will not be able to see it.

For future reference: please keep in mind that you might not be able to upgrade it later via the management console in case the phones fall behind by too many versions. Yealink phones usually prevent you from jumping across too many versions, so in this case you will have to find the older firmware and upgrade one by one until you finally reach the latest available at the time you chose to upgrade.

We always recommend customers use the latest version we provide, because this is the only version we check against 3CX for compatibility, and the templates are also updated with this version in mind.

In addition, there are security updates included in the latest firmware that prevent the phones from being compromised due to known vulnerabilities.

If I could tag onto this question, we have been rolling out 3CX to replace all of our Cisco IPT environment ( 4 overpriced ISR routers acting as "CUBEs", two CUCM VMs, two CIMP VMs, two UCCX, VMs, two CER VMs and two CUC VMs - ) ALL REPLACED BY ONE 3CX VM!!!!!! I love it.

Because of timing, we chose to stay on 3CX v16 that we started the migration on. We want to upgrade to the latest 3CX version soon.

My question is - because our Yealink phones had to have custom templates to enable Call Forward All, I believe those custom templates will be overwritten "automatically" when we upgrade correct?

Am I correct in making the following conclusions about upgrading based on JohnS_3CX's comment:

1. Phone firmware will NOT be upgraded automatically
2. Phone templates WILL be upgraded automatically

TIA,

Amir
