FXO gateway and SBC

I would really like to keep the PBX hosted on Amazon.
But I need to integrate some remote location landline (PSTN).

Any pages about integrating FXO gateway states:

• The device must be local to 3CX, in the same subnet and/or locally routed subnet (including site to site VPN)

What about using an SBC in the remote location?

If you use VPN, it should not be an issue.

Yep, but the VPN is not under my responsibility.

The less I have to ask in terms of changes in the VPN, the better it is.

Just for anyone else reading this, note that even though using a FXO gateway on the SBC could work - it hasn't been tested and won't be supported.
