Hi everyone,

The multiple issues I am having with GXP2130 are slowly driving me crazy.

There are only 9 extensions we are using at the moment, all with 2130 phones. None of the phones, after reset to factory defaults are visible in bold, as new phones nor are provisioned. All phones and the PBX are on the same subnet. In the firewall ALL the traffic to the phones and PBX, as well as traffic from them is passed by the top two rules on the firewall.I managed to have a provisioned phone only in one occasion, by adding its MAC address manually, assigning it to a specific extension and adding the provisioning URL in the phone configuration. Identical procedure did not worked for the other phones.

NTP on most of the phones is not working. Interestingly, on some phones it works OK, but the settings are identical on all phones. It does not work even after a fresh phone reset to factory defaults and firewall opened fully.

All the phones are able to register OK to the PBX if SIP parameters are manually configured. 3CX app is working well, as expected.

Finally, all the phones are manually updated to 1.0.9.132 which I downloaded from the 3CX website, but the PBX is seeing them as they are still on 1.0.9.127 and they are all displayed in red! (The phones are visible in the list only after manually assigning them to an extension). The only one phone which wanted to be provisioned, have downgraded itself to 1.0.9.127 during the provisioning process! It seems like the new firmware does not exist on the PBX, despite the fact it is updated to the latest version (16.0.1581, professional annual). I haven't added any custom provisioning profiles.

Any help is very much appreciated!

Slight confused, you say the phones and pbx are in the same subnet, yet you talk about firewall rules.

If the phones and pbx on the same subnet, the firewall should not be involved.

I have opened the firewall because of the NTP in a hope it is the firewall who is blocking, but no luck.

The phones will get the time from the internet on NTP port UDP 123

Can you provide a Lan scheme of your case and who deliver DHCP service and where is it running ?

Do you use static IP on PBx and phones?

Did firewall checker passes in MC?

It's actually a very simple /23 network with a Mikrotik router which has a static public IP on the WAN port. The router is providing the DHCP. What is maybe worth mentioning is that the PBX is a virtual machine on Proxmox system. The virtual interface of the machine is in the same VLAN which is assigned to the Office LAN. But as Ping and SIP register from a manually configured phone works well, therefore I assume this part is OK.

The PBX is on static IP, while the phones are configured to get the IP from DHCP. The DHCP is assigning always the same IP to each phone, so you may consider it static. However, this gives me the option to play with the DHCP "Option 66" which I have already tried, but with no luck.

Yes, it does pass the fw checker.

Have you assigned a static mac address to the 3cx virtual machine ?

I know that Hyper-V you have to do this, so guessing the same applies to Proxmox

Are you running Windows or Debian version of 3CX ?

Phones will register using pnp on the 3CX server, is there any network devices that may blocking PNP.

The phones are in the same /23 network with the 3CX server, so I guess there should be nothing blocking PNP. Or I am maybe wrong? What could be the possible cause in this scenario?

Anything on the DHCP server, that maybe pointing the phones to the wrong server i.e. DHCP option 66.

The "option 66" is not enabled at the moment.

You could try setting up option 66 for dhcp - http option - https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/dhcp-option-66/

I have tried it already, unfortunately with no luck. The phone does nothing when rebooted or forced to provision (from its web menu, or using the keypad)

You could try manually updating the firmware - https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/grandstream-gxp21-series/

I have upgraded them manually and the phones are showing they are running the latest version (1.0.9.132). However in the "Phones" section of the 3CX admin menu, the phones are showing in red, running the old version (1.0.9.127). In addition to this, the only phone which wanted to provision was already manually upgaded to 1.0.9.132, however during provisioning it has downgraded to 1.0.9.127! So it seems like the PBX is aware that 1.0.9.132 is the latest version, but the firmware itself is not included, despite the fact that clicking on Updates gives the following message: Your system is up to date. Last checked: Today, 14:11
To make things even more strange, I have one phone which is connected to a different, routed network. The 3CX server is able to see it is running 1.0.9.132 properly! But, it can't see the same on the phones which are in the same network.... I am really confused!

If phones are not seen in bold in MC , Probably PNP requests don't reach 3CX so something is wrongly set on your network to block multicast requests.

Have you check in MC if phones are not blacklisted?

Is this 3cx in production ? or for now only for tests use? if not in production , are you able to use another router to test with?
