I'm needing some assistance with configuring our 3CX system to ensure that our user's IP desk phones ring even when their status is set to "Away" on the softphone app.

Currently, we have multipliable users who utilizes both desk phones and the 3CX iOS app when out of the office. The desired functionality is to have the IP desk phones ring consistently, regardless of the user's status on the softphone app (so that the desk phones will always ring, even if the user sets their status as "Away" on the app). This is so the user's mobile device from ringing when they are physically present in the office.

Our goal is to ensure that incoming calls are always received on the IP desk phones, regardless of the user's status on the softphone app.

I feel the need to clarify that unlike older legacy systems, we do not consider a device to be an extension.

What do I mean with this?

On older systems you predominantly had an extension assigned to a device.

So I would have had multiple devices with different extensions
  • Nicholas Office (100)
  • Nicholas Home (101)
  • Nicholas Mobile (102) etc.
3CX does not consider a device an extension. Thats why a few years ago we renamed "Extensions" to "Users".

We just consider the devices as terminals, linked to a user. When you configure any settings on your user (extension - it is an industry term, so I am using it in this context) it will apply across all your devices.

This is why we do not have device specific settings.

What the customer is requestiong is not possible.

Status profiles reflect what they are named for.

Absent and Do Not Disturb, as the name suggests, will never ring. There's nothing you can do to bypass this.

However, if your goal is to prevent the mobile app from ringing, you can use an alternative:

A) Disable the profile in the mobile app. For example, on iOS, tap the three bars, go to accounts, then tap the active account again, and the account will be disconnected from the phone.

B) Uncheck "ACCEPT PUSH NOTIFICATIONS" under the "Available" status or "Custom 1 (lunch / you can rename)," allowing users to switch from one status to another to avoid Push.

C) Constantly have two extensions and forward calls from the "in office" account to the "out of office" account to control ringing on the mobile app.

Amazing, thanks for the responses. I will be doing some testing and see which method will work best for the team.

This should be the best solution.
