I'm running v20 build Update 8 (build 1080 Release).

Inbound calls are routed to a Ring Group. When in a particular holiday period, I would like the caller to hear a prompt that is specific to the holiday and then route the call to a general purpose voice mail box.

I have added the Holiday call processing script.

I can add a Prompt in the Holiday itself and/or in the Ring Group's "When on holiday route to" settings. I don't understand the purpose of having both of these options?

Also, is there any way to suppress the default message on the voicemail box when a call has arrived there via the Holiday route?

By the time you have setup Holidays per department by navigating to Admin > Office Hours > select Department > Office Holidays.
There, you can upload different prompts for each holiday configured.
In order for the prompt to play you will have to configure the script by navigating to Admin > Integrations > Call Scripts > Add from store > holiday.

This script will check if it is a holiday and play the prompt configured to the specific holiday in the office hours.

The option to upload the prompt directly to the Queue/IVR/Ring Group is only if you dont have the script setup.

The vmail prompt can not changed if its Holiday or not.

The way I do this is by changing the message. You can replace the message with a (very) short silence. I have added the file I use. So after the holiday message it will play the short silece before continuing to the recording part. Please note that there will never be a message played when forwarding to this voicemail box. So if you use this voicemail box also for other uses, you have to create your own voice message before forwarding to the box (e.g. use an IVR).
