A feature that would be nice is the ability to configure a phone with a fixed extension, then for a user to log in to that extension via the call assistant or from a web browser without needing full admin access.

Example

Create extension 101, configure an IP phone to log in as 101 so that phone will always be extension 101. But then have 2 users set up as extensions 201 & 202. Those users would then be able, via either call assistant or from a web control panel forward there calls to 101 as if they were logged into it. Then you could have 2 non admin users roaming between 2 desks and able to get there calls at whichever desk they are at without reconfiguring the phones or taking the phones with them.

Or they could do it from the phone itself, i.e. they pick up extension 101 type a short code which then routes 201 to 101 with another short code to cancel it.

This feature could be easily emulated by using Ring Group. Just create ring group number 101, and put 201 and 202 extensions to it. That's all. All will work as you've described.

how would this allow the user to log themselves in and out of a phone though if they moved from one phone to another.

SNOM have an interesting link on their wiki regarding hot desking:

We haven't tried this ourselves as yet, but will give it a go and post our results.
