More people are hybrid working from their home and office, and want the same full featured desktop phone experience, and their extension, at home. Ok great! But, that presents a challenge with 911 routing and compliance.

Are there any tweaks or tricks for 3CX to recognize the home phone is different than the office phone and route outbound to a different DID dedicated to the home phone's physical address?

One idea: Is a phone's MAC address present in SIP communication and could 3CX use it to recognize the phone is different, instead of being limited only to the extension number.

If you are open to Third Party solutions, VOIPTools has one that uses the IP (doesn't work with all clients) to do DID selection.

I don't have a great answer for you. Possibly use two extensions and forward calls? Then each can have a caller ID.

Probably not the answer you expected, most people have mobile phones - call 911 on mobiles when at home

Thanks! Sorry, I didn't intend to focus on your for the answer. I thought you were 3CX. ;-)

I can't get my head around using two extensions. Seems user would have to change their status to activate forwarding from office ext to home ext, and outbound calls from home would appear as different ext for internal calls?

That is correct, however, if users only have one IP Phone that they move depending where they are (office/home) it would also mean that you would have to re-provision the device with the corresponding extension each time which would not be very practical.

Since there is no built-in functionality for this I would recommend that you simply give Management Console rights to a manager extension and have him update the emergency outbound rules extension conditions whenever someone moves from home to the office. This of course provided that this is not something that happens too frequently.
