Hi,
one of my users recently bought a brand new Huawei P40 that comes without Google Services.
In this Covid-19 times I cannot meet the user and try myself the install.

I would like to install the apk from apkpure but I'm wondering if the app will still work even if the system is missing all the google services.

Thanks
Giuseppe

Hi Giuseppe

I believe it should be possible to install the Google services manually on the phone so that the user can have full google play services.

From there on, they can simply install our app from the store, rather installing it from 3rd party stores (and avoid any chance that the app may have been modified by a 3rd party to install any malicious code)

I have tested this, it's working just fine with the 3CX application installed from APKpure. Google services is not needed.
The phone actually seems VERY fast compared to a Samsung S10. can't help but wonder if Google services is slowing phones down.

We would not recommend you use the 3CX from anywhere else than the Play store, the integrity of the app cannot be guaranteed and I would consider it a risky move.

Alternative metode:
Install 3CX on a "Google supported" phone, with all Google services
Install "Solid Explorer (free)" from Google Play on the same phone.
Insert a SD-memory card in the phone.
Open Solid Explorer, find the backup feature.
Create a backup of 3CX app, to SD-Card
-
Switch the SD-memory card over into the Huawei P40
Browse card with build-in file explorer, open the backup (APK) file from the SD-Card.
and install. Totally offline, and easy to install the app on a bunch og phones at the same time.

BUT beware, using this metode does not give you "auto-update" ability, and you have to repeat the steps every time 3CX makes a new version.

I am working at a workplace where Google Play is blocked on all android phones, due to company policy. So I had to find some workaround to install 3CX on 100+ phones. :)

Hi I tested the app on a P40 stock and even if it's possible to make calls the phone doesn't ring when the extension is called.
It's plausible that this is due to the fact that GMS is missing and the app cannot receive notifications from google.

It could be worth considering to support Huawei Messaging ecosystem.

Hi Giuseppe,

That's correct - the app relies on Google PUSH so if you want to use our app to receive calls you will have to use a phone with Google Services support, or install these services on your device.

As for Huawei Messaging, I don't see it as being supported any time soon, so I would recommend to use a Google enabled phone at least for now. We will see in future how it goes with HMS

The best I could get going is using app version v16.0 with the old square dialpad buttons... but It only receives calls when in focus... I might try and get it to not sleep when it's in the background and see if that works better but other than that you'll have to use a 3rd party SIP app (eg. Grandstream Wave)

Not worth it, it will drain your battery by keeping the CPU awake constantly which is a big no-no for mobile devices

We designed it to work with google services, so once you step outside of that realm the app will not behave as intended.

The only viable solution is to use the app in a supported environment.

did anyone managed to get the app working on the P40 in the end?
