I’m currently evaluating the free tier before jumping full on into 3cx Enterprise. Yesterday, I messed up by trying to set up a non SBC deskphone which resulted in my IP being blocked. Whilst I can access the management console using a VPN, there is no way in the console to unblock my IP. How can I unblock my IP as I have effectively just rendered this exchange useless by accident — seems very dangerous had I been using this in a live situation.

TLDR: How can I unblock my IP ? why isn’t there a way to do it within the management console?

There is no way to do this through the console. Try to create a mobile Hotspot and access it through another ip address, this is the way.

Thanks Rick. I can already access it using a VPN and I’m only evaluating this for lab purposes right now. my main complaint is that for me to use this system within business it needs to be on that specific IP which was accidentally blocked by me - which has effectively rendered the pbx useless whereas I **Should** be able to able just go ‘my bad! unblock my ip” and carry on.

This seems like a major flaw within the 3cx system.

The free version doesn't have IP black/white list the pro and enterprise versions do.
I believe the IP Blacklist expires after 24hours

The free version would need either a SBC running or a router phone to connect upto 3 physical phones.
Also you need to remove the phone that caused the blacklist otherwise it will get you blocked again.

Thanks Guillaume. I think this is a problem with the free tier - There is no advanced option so whitelisting isn’t available - so effectively, I bricked it!! It‘s a shame because my first impressions of 3cx were really good until this - but now I’m considering sticking with my existing system.

The on premise Free version includes the IP Blacklist feature.

Be careful not to confuse it with the SMB 10 users version (which is free), with hosting included.

So, you're using the SMB version with included hosting.

If you switch to an On-Premise license, such as Pro or Enterprise, this issue will no longer affect you.

Think of it as a limitation due to the fact that the hosting service is free.

Thanks Keith.
Yes. I’ve been reading more about and I realise I screwed up. I’m looking at installing an SBC on a Rasberry Pi or Proxmox - and also self hosting the trial of Pro / Enterprise so I don’t get blocked when I screw something up. My main reason for trialling free was see what it was about and seeing if I liked it before making the jump with installation.

Am I right that if I have a single router phone (such as Yealink SIP T53) - I can use that as an SBC for my legacy kit on a hosted solution? or would I still need a standalone SBC?

Thanks again Guillaume. I didn’t realise the free version was also available to run on premises.

I can provide you with a PRO license for 60 days free of charge.
I can even host your PBX for 60 days at no cost.

You’ll be able to explore as much as you'd like.
When you're ready to place an order, simply contact me to renew the key before it expires. You’ll have the option to either continue with my hosting or host it yourself.

You will be able to use your phone router.

It's a different product.
If a PRO or ENTERPRISE license expires (after a trial version, for example), it will be downgraded to the FREE version. The number of simultaneous calls will then be reduced—I believe it's 4, and many features is disabled (Queue .. ect.. ) though I’ll need to double-check that.

Thank you. I may take you up on your offer later, but at the moment - I like the idea of self hosting and ‘making mistakes’ on the free tier so I can see what I can and can’t do before moving.

I’m not unhappy with my current provider as I have been with them for 17 years and they are reliable and provide pretty much everything wrapped up in a pretty gui - they even make it really easy for me to create my trunks on the fly, but it does come at a rather hefty price - hence me looking at 3cx - This is really only Day 2 and I have to say ‘ I like the community’

Thank you all.

Let me provide you with a valid free 60-day key, and you can host it yourself.
After this period, it will automatically be downgraded, with no commitment required.

All you have to do is message me privately, I'll gather some basic information, and you'll receive your free 60-day valid key.

Yes, 3CX puts a lot of effort into its forum. 3CX isn't perfect—every system has its flaws—but you can be sure that the top executives are highly attentive and see far more than you might imagine. And the blog is very important. https://www.3cx.com/blog/

@uknotbot The self hosted free license is no longer available. The “3CX Free” and SMB are essentially departments on a shared server, so have more restrictions than a full server.

Thanks Keith.

Yes you can use a Yealink T53 as a router phone, for two other phones*, though they should be on the supported phone list you only need a standalone sbc if you need more than 10 phones connected in the same location, though there is no reason you can't have multiple router phones, or even all router phones.

*the 3cx smb free only supports three physical phones, a router phone can support upto 10 phones normally

We do not offer free edition subscriptions for self-hosted and on-premise installations; therefore, when a trial or paid subscription for such installs expires, it is no longer downgraded.
An expired trial or subscription can be renewed/upgraded at any point.

If SMB PRO expires and is not renewed - it gets downgraded to a 3CX FREE.
