I am hoping someone can clarify why if my carrier is sending inbound name. My Patton gateway is sending to the 3cx. How come 3cx can only do caller ID name with phone book entry. This seems like a very common feature among most PBX's and a very simple fix. What's the deal with this?

Have you confirmed this?

The 3CX logs will show if it is actually receiving a name from the gateway. If not, then check the gateway, and confirm that your provider, is indeed, sending the name.

Below is the log from my carrier: I have spoken with Patton and they have confirmed they are sending the caller ID name that they are receiving. Where in the 3CX logs do I need to look?

3CX has two logs available in the main menu. Have a look at the Activity Log. You may need to change the settings to Verbose for additional information. Check, or refresh the log after your have received a call. You should see the incoming number, and name, if it is being sent. If there is no name, then you probably need to investigate the current settings in the gateway.
