3CX 16.0.6.655
iOS app version 16.1.4.56
Android App version 16.1.4.56

My client does not allow for the use of the mobile phone apps from outside of the network and has not configured the firewall for Push notifications. Does this need to be done?

Their network has multiple subnets and the mobile phones are not on the same segment as the server.

The internal DNS does not resolve the FQDN to the local 3CX server.

Push notification per extension is enabled. Push Account is 3CX.

Problem is that after a restore to a new server the apps do not ring for incoming call, either internal or external.

What can I check?

3CX any suggestions?

Hi,

Yes, definitely this needs to be done. If you want the apps to work, you must allow a number of things otherwise communication will not be possible.

The most essential necessities are:

- Allow the PBX to send outgoing PUSH traffic to Apple/Google (to make the apps ring)

- Allow the PBX Tunnel port to be accessible from the outside (to allow the apps to have audio)

- Allow the PBX HTTPS port to be accessible from the outside (to allow the apps to provision)

- Enable PUSH on the extensions you wish to use

Thanks for that John. Just to clarify, for the apps to work on the internal network they require all those ports open?

Yes 100%. It's the same deal, because by internal network we mean that the apps connect to a WiFi that is on the same subnet as the PBX or one that can freely reach the PBX.

If the Tunnel port and HTTPS port is impeded in a any way by the internal network structure, it will still fail because those requirements were again not met.

Looking at the wireshark pcap file for our 3CX lab server I don't see any traffic going outside of the network when calls are being placed. I do however see that there is 3cxbridge activity when calls are being placed to a 3CX app on an Android phone attached to the local wifi on the local network.

On the client network I do not see similar activity when placing a call to a locally attached android phone.

[email protected] -> this is tunnel port traffic. this should begin once the push message arrives and the phone starts ringing. So if you don't see traffic then you know your PUSH message delivery probably did not happen.

But in answer to your original question and to keep things simple, just open the relevant ports that I described above, and then retest.

OK so I couldn't convince my customer to open these ports so what I did was close all external ports to my server, I disabled port forwarding on my router so ports 80,443,5001,5090 9000-10999 did not route to 3CX. I then made a call to a mobile phone 3cx app extension from a local 3cx windows chrome client and the mobile app phone rang.

Is there something I missed with this test?

As John said, "Allow the PBX to send outgoing PUSH traffic to Apple/Google (to make the apps ring)". You may forget any other checks if this condition is not met.

Has your customer's iOS clients receiving chat and missed calls notifications when device locked?

Yes, you missed the fact that none of those port forwards are related to PUSH message delivery. Those port forwards address ingress traffic towards the PBX, and port preservation.

PUSH message delivery makes an Outgoing connection from your PBX to the APN server. You firewall never blocked it, so it was successful in making your phone ring.
