Hello,

I recently discovered that notifications on my iPhone have stopped working, specifically for SMS/MMS. I cannot say exactly when they stopped, just that they have.

I have completed the following:

1. Restarted iPhone
2. Restarted 3CX Server
3. Reinstalled the iOS App
4. Triple checked all iOS notifications are correct and I am not in any type of DnD/Focus mode.
5. Checked Activity Logs for PUSH errors, none were found.
6. Phone on a WiFi network that is not mine, doesn't function. Phone on VPN to network where 3CX lives, doesn't function. Phone on LTE, doesn't work.
7. Powered down Apple Watch with the assumption it was stealing notifications and silencing them.

What does work:

1. Calls will behave normally giving me the option to answer/decline.
2. 3CX internal chats will notify correctly on iOS.
3. Notifications on 3CX desktop application notify correctly.
4. SMS/MMS send/receive does function on iOS and desktop application.

I have found a few threads on the forums discussing similar (almost identical) issues but they either lead to nowhere or do not have a solution.

https://www.3cx.com/community/threads/ios-push-notifications.87054/

Setup:

Due to a known issue that 3CX is working on fixing (possibly in Version 6) I have my calls and SMS routing to a Call Queue so I can get calls and SMS at the same number. That has been working fine for over a month. (Specifically did this: https://www.3cx.com/community/threads/sms-routing-ivr-allow-different-destination.116826/post-541161)

Versions:

iOS 16.1.1 (20B101)
3CX 18 (Build 418)
Flowroute is my SIP Provider

If anyone can help point me in the right direction/have me check something I didn't specify above I would really appreciate it. I've already missed several texts today and it's not a good look. :(

Thank you!

Have you checked the ManagementConsole log file in verbose mode? You would see any errors for Push.

I switched to Verbose, sent myself several text messages in a row and no errors generated. Checked several others logs as well and all looked okay (okay being nothing that looked like an error). Not sure if anyone else can report on that version of iOS working for notifications. I have a feeling it's possibly on iOS/3CX app side of the house...

If you have checked everything as per your above post, I would recommend contacting your 3CX partner/reseller for further support, or purchasing and opening a ticket directly with 3CX Technical support from your portal.3cx.com

I purchased direct through 3CX. Had an issue in the past that required me opening a ticket that was refunded as the issue was with the license, so I was given a new one. I will wait a little longer before throwing in the towel and raising a ticket with support. My hope is that this is just a transient error that will resolve itself in an update.

I have a buddy who also runs a 3CX server, he spun up an extension and we tested text messaging and it worked...
I've purchased a support ticket and if it's allowed, I'll post the solution here if one is found.

The issue was a stupid one... the workaround provided by Tony Cave in the thread linked above worked perfectly for weeks and then broke for no explainable reason. 3CX Support sadly wouldn't dig into it as it was an unofficial workaround which makes sense. In the tech industry chasing down unofficial workarounds would take way too much time.

Thankfully, the proper fix was finally released in Update 6 Alpha. There are some bugs that I'm finding but that's to be expected since it's still in Alpha.

The 'temporary' fix I had to do in response from tech support which wasn't a fun one was to go back to not having an IVR stand between my extensions and the world. IVR helps a TON with blocking bot/spam calls. So many useless calls... almost drove me to insanity!

Hi @TheSystemAdmin

Good to hear that the new feature of forwarding SMS through the IVR configuration in webclient helps with your setup.

Regarding what you mentioned about seeing some bugs in the latest Update 6 Alpha, can you elaborate on what you are referring to specifically?
