Solved IP desktop phones without an SBC-hosted

I’ve always understood that you cannot have desktop ip phones with a hosted system UNLESS you have an SBC. I was told by another phone guy that works on 3CX as well that you do not have to. He states he has many customers that are hosted by 3cx with IP desktop phones WITHOUT an SBC. It clearly states on the 3cx academy that it will not work. So who is right here? Thanks.

Without an SBC the supported method is to use a STUN setup. STUN has some drawbacks including unencrypted communication.

Hello,

Please note that you can have IP Desktop Phones with STUN Provisioning using 3CX PBX.
However if you want a Hosted with 3CX solution installation then the STUN Provisioning method is not recommended nor supported.

Also as per @SteveITS said the SBC solution it's always more secure due to the encryption of the communication.

Thank you guys for the fact check there. He’s insisting you can and he’s done it for big clients which is scary. I’ll be sure to screenshot these and show him everyone is in agreement INCLUDING the 3cx academy.
