ISDN to faxdevice

Hi,

We have a customer that has 4 ISDN lines and has also 2 faxnumbers on them and he still wants to use his old faxmachines.

We are converting the 4 ISDN lines with a gateway patton 4638 to the 3CX PBX.

What kind of gateway do we need to convert the VOIP line from 3CX back to an analog line so it can be connected with an old faxmachine ? Or are there easier ways to do this ?

In theory you would use an ATA (analogue telephone Adapter), but, people have had many issues attempting this, it is affected by a number of variables. Be prepared to do a lot of trial and error tweaking settings. You may want to have a look through the forum, to see some of the problem encountered before trying to do a fax machine over SIP. It is possible, in some cases, but, it can even come down to the make/model of fax machine you are using. Some of the older units are able to slow down enough to get a reliable connection. In your case you would also be converting an analogue modem signal (the fax machine) to digital (SIP) then to digital (ISDN).

The only other way would be a analogue adapter for ISDN, that supported the fax machine directly, and that work work alongside your gateway, if you had to use the same lines.

I have success with the Linksys PAP2 box, with advanced custom setup. The Linksys PAP2 box does not support the T38 protocol, but you are able to fax if the circumstances are right. With my setup I was also able to use the 56K modem thru 3cx for calling windmills in Germany ( yes 56K !! ) Even fax from device -> pap2 -> 3cx -> SIP -> ISDN -> Fax device.

My setup are
1.NO echo cancelation
2.Codec MUST be G711
3.Local network MUST have QoS
