Issues getting UPnP provisioning on UNIFI network

Hi there folks,

having a slight issue with the UPnP feature on my fanvil phones.

Currently my environment has Multiple subnets based on the Location EG: Office VLAN, Server vlan, management vlan etc

when a phone is connected to the Office network for instance it does not automatically show up in the 3cx Phones menu. I have UPnP enabled in the ubiquiti UDM pro and the network is set up to allow communication between subnets and allows for UPnP

is there a way to allow it to Autoprovision over Vlans instead of having it in the same network?

Hi Billy,

uPnP is an entirely different thing - it's unrelated to the issue you are currently investigating.

When we talk about PnP on SIP phones, what we really mean is Multicast messages:

Basically what happens is you boot up your phone, it sends a SIP message on the multicast IP range, and if your network allows that message to travel across to 3CX, you will see the phone appearing.

So in your case it looks like the subnets you built do not allow the multicast message from the phones to reach the 3CX system, hence the phones never appear. You will have to find some way resolving this, probably by looking into the UniFi documentation.

there is a feature for Multicast DNS (MDNS) in the network configuration. Could this poten tially be it?

Probably not, that's a different service on a different multicast address that deals with DNS.

YEah looking at that article the server is all set up but it doesnt explain vlans except where an SBC is needed which I ideally dont want to have an SBC running on the local network when there is a pbx already

It also explains that the PBX and phones must be on the same subnet (otherwise you face the issue you have now).
If you diverge from this setup, then you need to find your own way of doing it. It could still be doable depending on your hardware - but you need to do your own research as we don't really provide any assistance on the networking part - this is 100% up to you.

You could skip PnP entirely though if that's not bother, and paste the provisioning link into the phones manually.
If you read each phone guide provided here, there is a link inside each guide for manual provisioning:

Once they pick up the link they will be able to reprovision automatically in the future, unless you factory reset then.

Yeah thats how ive been doing it currently Oh well if the PNP isnt working right Was more of a nicety "try and ask" type deal in case i was just being stupid

Another option, add the phone details manually under Phone Provisioning , and use dhcp option 66 to register the phones

Have you tried the UniFi forums by the way? You might find some good info if you look for 'multicast across vlans' and I'd say it would be the best place to ask

Why not create a vlan network for the 3CX server and phones ?
