Hello guys, I'm new to this so bear with me.

Tried to restore settings from one system to another (from Asterisk 1.6 to 1.8) and it failed and crashed my new system, I found out later that you can't restore a backup from an earlier system, learnt that the hard way :)

My question is, I need to transfer the main greeting from that old system to the new one and I don't want to deal with backup/restore and also don't want to deal with fully upgrading that old system, so, is there a way to do this manually?

Let's say for example, locating those audio files, copy them to the same folder structure in new system and have Elastix to locate it in the drop down menu in IVR or Recordings menu. I read somewhere that you can't just move the IVR audio files and have Elastix magically "detect" file and that reference was in MySQL.

Basically, I'm looking forward to have that IVR file in the new system and being able to use it, backup/restore is out of the question for me.

Thanks in advance guys.

As I understand it you will need to load them manually. Use winscp or command line to copy to workstation you manage elastix from then manually load the system recordings.

Hopefully you don't have hundreds of recordings. 20 or 30 will go fairly quickly

Thanks for the quick response. That I have in mind that I need to move those files, another question, is there a configuration file that I would need to edit for these changes?

I believe I had read before that the audio files location is /var/spool/asterisk/monitor/ please confirm. If I move those files to the new location, will Elastix detect and find those files when I click on the drop-down menu on IVR and/or Recordings menu in Elastix?

look at
var/lib/asterisk/sounds/custom
is that what you want to move to a new machine?

copy the folder to a local admin machine that you connect to elastix to manage and then load them one at a time, just like you did when you created them the first time

that is what you need to do if you are not going to do a db restore, the process of loading them will put the names of the files back into the systems gui so you can pick them as you create an IVR or whatever you use them for.

Don't over think it and try to do anything else unless you are doing a restore of the system, 20 or 30 files should take you about 15 minutes to reload manually.

Then if you have a working system for reference you should be able to recreate the IVRs, Queues and such fairly quickly. Make yourself some notes on creating one entire call flow and work out the order of what all you use. IE parts need to be created to be an option later in the configuration.

Inbound Route > Time Condition > Extension (for voicemail) > IVR > Queue

Once you have a map of what you will need create all the first step then move to second and so on....

I checked that file path on another system that I manage and I see the .wav files needed. Unfortunately I did not work on that old system, I didn't install it, I just got here to manage the new one :)

I will definitely move those files to the new system easily, just to confirm, I should upload those .wav files using the "System Recordings" option from Elastix? and then they should be available when recreating queues, IVR and such?

Thanks for your patience with me :)

yes use the system recording gui to upload the files

Hopefully the old system engineer used a good naming convention for the files so it will be easy to make sense of them as you rebuild the IVRs and such on the new system.

Test loading one, you should see it available for selection if in an IVR in gui. If satisfied load them all up. Then proceed to complete the balance of the call flows you need.

Good luck on the migration, write up some good notes on the steps you take to complete the migration and post it here on the forum so others can learn from your work. Anyone new to the platform will find what you have to say as helpful.

Thank you so much. I really appreciate all the help you provided today. I browsed in old system and compared recordings and their naming convention is good :)

I think I can start working on this part of the migration. I will definitely take notes and test the hell out of the options and will share it to the forums for anyone who might find it useful.

Thanks Murphy!!!

Glad I could be of help to you. Many people have helped me, and I think it is fair to help out those that I can. The guys running the forum are a great bunch of people and it makes a huge difference when learning something new. Always take a few minutes to search for the answer that may already be posted

TIP: I often use a search engine on the web like google to find posts that help me: Google search for what you want followed by site:elastix.org

IE type IVR site:elastix.org in the search

Other advanced searches will help narrow what you want to find.

Great platform in my opinion, Enjoy.
