As with the update to V18, the free standard license was dropped from 8SC to 4SC.
I cannot find any information what exactly should happen to existent licenses when updating.

As I can see, an already activated V16 Standard Free 8SC will get a V18 Standard Free 8SC license when updated.
But what happens, when the renew of the license will happen?
Could you please clarify when a drop should be estimated, so I can prepare the customers?

Hi @Severin Meyer,

Any new v18 licenses will be 4SC. A v16 8SC license that is upgraded will become a v18 4SC license. When the license is renewed, it will drop to 4SC.

This is not what I actually observe.
If I update a v16 8SC free license to v18, I will get a 8SC license, which is valid till 31.12.2022
So, I have to be prepared to see a license drop every day, as it should be an 4SC on v18?

But if the license is valid till 31.12.2022.
The drop will not occur before 1.1.2023?

Yes, to my understanding, if the license is not renewed before then then yes it will stay 8SC till the renewal.

Perhaps there is a misunderstanding of the term "renew".
If "renew" is creating a new license, as the license duration has ended, it will be the date listed.
But if the license is "recreated" for the same license duration, this could happen every day unpredictable.

As the activation process will change on february 1st, it could be that the license will then be recreated and an unplanned drop occurs:
To improve our cloud services, the FQDN endpoint used to activate 3CX products will change to activate.3cx.com. The current activation endpoint will be terminated by 1st February 2022 at the latest. We urge customers to upgrade to v18 as soon as possible, to ensure long term support, compatibility and security.
Can you guarantee the license is fixed till the date listed?

There's no guarantee of anything. The free version is free and can change anytime. Right now, it's 4SC. If you have 8, that's nice.

If you want to be 100% sure, just buy a paid license and you'll be safe.
