License has gone past the grace period and was forced to buy new license

Hi there the scenario is this

License for 3cx when it was on v18 was not renewed on time and was left to go past grace period therefore couldn't renew so had to buy new license to which I had issues with activating it saying "A networking problem occurred while activating your license key: (Error code: 401)" to my mind though the update to v20 should fix some of the bugs but the same...now I'm told the only way I can fix it is to go back on V18 and take a backup without license and FQDN and go back to V20 and restore which sounds very dramatic considering that I did the rookie mistake of not taking a backup before upgrading.

Is there no other option ?

We let one of ours expire and it went to 0 SC. Though, renewing it fixed it.. odd.

3CX license subscription can be renewed at any time, even if it has expired. Have you tried to renew? What error have you encountered that prevented you from renewing?

Replace license option works only when both the old and new licenses are on the same version/service pack.
