I know this is not the correct forum for this question but could not find one related to licensing. So here goes anyway.

I have a customer that has two locations. Both have on-premise systems that are bridged to each other. I am moving them to cloud hosted under one account in a couple of months. Currently both sites have professional licenses. One has a 16 SC and the other has an 8 SC, I am going to move the 16 SC first and get it in the cloud. And then just rehome the extensions at the other location to the new hosted location and have all extensions in one system.

The issue is licensing. I just renewed the 16 SC license for another year. The 8 SC license is due to renew on 12/12/22. But since I don't plan on using the license for a couple of months more, what happens to the phone system on 12/13/22? Does it stop working or does it continue to operate normally, just without the ability to get updates? Don't want to spend the money if it is not necessary.

Thanks for any information.

The license will simply revert to Free 4SC and you'll lose recordings, call queues and some more features.

As for the other one, once ready, simply upgrade from 16 to 24SC to cover all users and you'll be good to go.

Another key feature that was listed as being used is Bridging. Bridging will also be lost if the PBX reverts for 4SC Free Edition.

I would reach out to 3CX to see if they would merge the 2 licenses together. Meaning:

Move the 16SC to cloud (it's already renewed) - 16 SC in cloud
Renew the 8SC (8SC on prem) and complete it's migration to cloud.
Once the 8SC on prem is offline, ask to have the extra 8 SC moved to the 16SC license - pro-rated of course.

I don't know 3CX will do this, but it's worth asking them.

Yes, I knew the bridging would be an issue when you said it would revert to the "Free" version. I really don't need the extra seats when the 2 locations are merged. 16 SC's will be plenty. They would only have 12 Phone numbers combined.

I have already renewed the 8 SC license, so the system does not "Puke" on the 12/12/22.

Thanks for the input. Really appreciated.
