Meeting to meeting video conference

Has anyone managed to create a video conference between two meeting spaces, where there are multiple people at each end? I know you can do a laptop to laptop video and audio conference, but the audio isn't up to a room full of people. We've created a hybrid solution by turning off the audio and using a conference phone, but this isn't ideal.

I've considered external cameras to show the whole room rather than just the laptop webcam, but assume they would need to be USB cameras for webmeeting to be able to pick them up?

Normally webmeeting can detect any video input devices attached to the PC so you can use an external camera. You can also use external speakers and microphones attaches to the PC for audio so everyone can hear and have synchronised audio and video.

It really depends on what is desired and of course, your pocketbook$$$.

There is a huge difference in what a video phone, laptop or video conferencing system is capable of accommodating. Purpose (one on one, many to one/one to many, many to many), locations, room sizes, number of attendees, acoustics, camera field and depth of view, and more need to be considered.

I am uncertain about many cameras as the feeds from same would need to be mixed so that they all appear in one screen/browser. It may also be that finding the right external camera could meet your need along with multiple mics (audio mixer).

There are trade-offs to consider, but if the need is there to accommodate larger audiences and the meetings occur with some frequency, then it may be worth your while to consider investigating conferencing systems and providers as WebRTC as you currently use it may not be able to provide the capability you desire.

Yiannis - if we are using a conference phone separately (for good quality audio and sound) then it won't pick that up will it?

Ineblett - true, I think I may need to consider something a bit more 'professional' as it were. Not all meetings will be many to many, most will be one to many but I need to try and factor it in. Are there any systems you have used in the past you could recommend?

Currently you cannot integrate a IP phone into webmeeting, however we are working on this functionality and it should be available soon. Not sure when as it is still in development but it's coming.
