Microsoft Teams Direct Routing - here to stay!

Enterprise - 100% fine/justified, but, please not a minimum of 16!

I've had a bunch of small business clients (<10 staff) convert from other providers that were on Teams to 3CX based on this feature (we've just done one and planning the rest),

If this is going to be 16 minimum, we will probably have to forget these ones.

Then better forget about those ones

Hi Nick,

Will existing installs using Teams be impacted by these changes, or will legacy installs continue to work?

We dont know yet, probably when up for renewal they will have to increase the license

Hi Nick, Other than the separate post I made where I'm trying to sort out a dial plan, it works so well!

We are seeing so many people wanting Teams Voice these days, 3CX with Teams is a really good middle ground.

It's completely understandable, but, it will be a real shame.

I'm a fan of features without limitations to create the best solution for the customer. Sooooo unlimited features for enterprise editions!

But if someone pays MS Teams Phone System/User/monthly and has 3CX for some scenarios..... there should be enough money to buy 16SC even when they only need 8SC

just my two cents

Amazing news, allows for a much easier transition into 3CX for Teams-only customers as well.

Will the Teams status be synced for Teams to Teams calls and impromptu meetings?

If someone can pay the MS costs for Teams Rooms Pro, they should have no issues with 3CX

if I may make a suggestion, adding "-Scope CurrentUser" to the end of the install module line (line 1) in the dial plan, you don't need to run it as admin

You do still need Teams Admin or Teams Communications Admin roles or higher for the script to work, but that is a Microsoft Requirement.

Just in case someone has limited admin on their PC

To the people who say "If they can pay for teams, they can pay for 16sc" or similar, again, fully understand and enterprise is more than acceptable for a requirement, but, we support over 100 clients with 90% being under 10 seats.

A lot of our clients are actually coming to ask and asking about using Teams more for every day requirements, or getting employees from other companies where they are using it, and to the every day end user, it works very well. The additional features, when you get head around it, aren't actually too bad.

I personally think 3CX is a much better platform, but, for ~£6 per user per month for Teams Phone licenses and then backing on to 3CX, it's a compromise to get the best of both worlds and I was hoping to embrace it a lot more.

My only fear is a lot of the smaller clients we planned to migrate to Teams Voice through 3CX won't have the budget for 16SC on top and we will be forced to go completely for Teams - then when they do grow bigger, there won't be a big enough reason to migrate away.

... Or, looking at the fact it costs an extra £495 per year per client (from 4SC), maybe look in to getting a different sip to teams proxy that can register as a sip client and can go to multiple teams tenants (last time I looked, this was about 4k).

It will just be a shame to remove such a promising feature out of reach.

I only mean that in the terms on the Teams room the licence is (IN AUD) $55/Month Per Room,
That and the meetings can quickly take a lot of SIM calls,

Every call even especially in teams meetings will take up a SIM call, so I can see it is not worth a 4 or 8SC system as dialing in/out 4 people in a teams meeting will saturate the lines

If you don't use Teams meetings I can understand if it seams a bit overkill

Yeah - I can't actually remember the last time I joined a phone meeting... probably before COVID. Literally just using the Teams to 3CX pretty much as a SIP client for the office number and not a lot else - this was (and is!) the perfect go between.

Other than my issue in the dial plan thread (thanks for commenting - looking now!), it is working better than expected and I wanted to roll this out to a lot more. I'll warn them that it may cost an extra ~£500 per year and hope for the best, where as before, it was a slam dunk and we were just going to role it out to everyone without question.

I found a PowerShell script online to disable the Microsoft 365 Phone License for all Office 365 users,
We used this to be able to link our meeting rooms to 3CX,

if you want a copy DM me and I will share a Pastebin link,

1 other note with teams rooms, Microsoft creates the rooms with no first and last name, you need to update the contact info to include 1 or both first or last names or it won't sync.

I'm pretty sure that this will happen - sometimes. Not every customer, but some will walk this way. But this seems to be calculated by 3CX.
The opposite, customers will drop MS Teams Phone System and just use 3CX will also happen. And from my feeling, this will happen more often

I want to be able to connect presence settings for both Teams and 3cx.
Meaning if they are using the phone in 3cx it says busy in Teams and when they are in a meeting in Teams it says busy in 3cx.
Do I have to do direct routing?

Direct Routing won't bring you presence sync as it's not supported at the moment.

However, it is coming in a future update now that the Teams integration is here to stay.

OK, what about routing Teams calls thru 3cx.
Do I need another license other than Teams Essentials?

I have 3cx Pro 16sm license

You will need more than that. You need a Business or E3-E5 license in addition to a Teams Phone Standard (without calling plan) license for each user using the integration.
I have 3cx Pro 16sm license
Teams integration requires the Enterprise edition.
