Moving 3CX16.04 from Windows to Debian

Hi

I am wanting to migrate from an existing working setup on Windows to Debian. Public IP address and the FQDN will remain the same, but the internal network will change for both the server and the phones.

Not done this before, so want to test, before truly switching over and going live. Assume dangerous to restore the full backup, while windows system still live

Any thoughts please on the right and wrong way to do this.

Basic steps

You backup your existing configuration, move to location where you can access it
Switch off the old server
Install Debian using 3CX ISO - https://www.3cx.com/docs/manual/installing-debian-linux-pbx/
Install 3CX using the option 'Restore of existing backup'

Didn't really want to switch off old system until I was happy with new. I can keep the new Debian on an isolated network, assume I could still restore the full database, then change the internal ip addresses once loaded.

No, you can not have both system running at the same time, you will have issues with licensing , ssl certificates etc

I think the fact that this website is up and all the people in the forums are testament enough that it works . But sure, do what you gotta do but 3CX needs to have internet to install/validate/work so again the right way to do it (which is what you asked) is what @Saqqara said.

Assuming one follows these steps to a tee;

1. Backup your current 3CX configuration to a safe location outside of your 3CX installation folder.
2. Uninstall the current 3CX PBX version on:

• Windows from “Control Panel” > “Programs and Features”.
• Linux by running the command as root:
  apt-get remove 3cxpbx

1. Download the latest 3CX Phone System and install.
2. Select the backup file to restore during configuration.

Will the phones automatically find the new IP address or do they need to be reprovisioned?

Any post-cleanup steps after the restore?
