We are currently running 3CX version 15.5.6354.2 on a Windows 2008 server. We are planning to move it to a new Windows 2012 server and change the license key (different version and SC count). We are using our own SSL and FQDN.

I have 2 questions:
1) Can the existing SSL be moved to the new server (with the same external FQDN) or does a new SSL need to be generated?.
2) Does the new server have to have the same Windows server name (which is different from the FQDN) as the old server?

Thanks

i'm not the expert in this so you might want to wait to hear others chime in also. if i remember correctly, the certificate installation was done during 3cx installation. the certificate was never installed using the cert snap-in of the microsoft console (mmc).
i don't think the cert is tied to the server name in anyway
read the following article which shows you how to renew the same cert. my guess would be that you can use the same cert but you're going to need these files that are noted in this article

https://www.3cx.com/docs/self-hosted-instances-ssh/

do you know how you're going to move the installation? my guess is you'll re-install on the new server and then re-instate a 3cx backup. i don't know how 3cx will act if it's recovered onto another server than the original install. if you take this route then the question would be at the point during the install where it asks if you want to use your own cert or get one from 3cx (lets encrypt) if it gives you an option to enter the cert and private key.

i would definitely test run this in a virtual environment before proceeding.

i'm sure others will better information that what i've posted

Hello @Michael Lee

Since you are changing servers and licence i would recommend the following.

  • Perform a backup without including licence and FQDN information.
  • Access your costumer portal and release FQDN from the current licence. https://customer.3cx.com
  • Download the latest version of 3CX. https://www.3cx.com/phone-system/download-links/
  • Install the PBX on the new server using the backup you created and the new licence key.
  • Use the same FQDN and certificate (if it still valid) to install the PBX.
  • Make sure that the original server is powered down.

Server name does not have to be the same.

i purchased through a reseller. do i have access to the customer portal also? i did not see anything there to register a new user name.

Normally the licence should be registered to your email so you should have access to the costumer portal also. If you have questions regarding your licence however it is better to talk to your reseller as he will be able to help you with any questions.
