We have a customer that wants to move to 3cx hosted from on-premise, but they currently have their own FQDN. Do we need to uninstall the PBX and release the license from the FQDN, then reinstall the PBX with a 3cx supplied FQDN and then move to hosted? Or am I adding a step and it can we can get a new FQDN when we move to hosted?

Hi all the installations hosted by 3CX must use a 3CX FQDN. Custom domains are not allowed.

If you plan to use a custom domain then you need to do it as On Premise or Self Hosted.

If you are ok using a 3CX FQDN then take a backup without the license key information and fqdn, save the backup and uninstall the server. Once done, access to the customer portal with the email registered in that license key and disconnect the FQDN. Then you can proceed and install the pbx using Hosted by 3CX and once installed set the backup location to an external server such as ftp, sftp, google storage or sharepoint, place the backup there and restore it from the management console.

Note: check that the backup has a system owner configured with an exclusive email.

Have a nice day!

Can you explain what you mean by system owner configured with an exclusive email?

Also, when the FQDN is disconnected, is that when we select "switch to hosted" in the portal? If we do backup without license, how does that license key get back to system once restored? By the "switch to hosted" piece?

Thank You

Sorry, one more question...

Once restore is done, since FQDN is now with 3CX, each phone needs to be wiped, correct? Or is there a less time-consuming way to re-establish connection? Connection involves multiple offices on same domain/vpn. Thank You
