Multicast Paging and Hosted Server

Hi,

I have a couple of questions regarding this and whilst I appreciate it may have been tackled before. Each time someone has asked, its been a slightly different situation. Therefore I'm not 100% sure.

We have 39x Yealink extensions connected to our hosted 3CX server via a 3CX SBC. We'd like to be able to page all phones at the same time (emergency use in a school). But with the limitations of the normal paging method, some phones are missed and often the calls don't end correctly on the phones.

Would the CyberData Paging server (https://www.voipon.co.uk/cyberdata-....html?osCsid=a2820c5035fb1f4c2e6c904b6c8ded8a) work in our situation? If so would it be fairly straight forward to configure? I've have an idea of whats involved but its all fairly new to me.

To do multicast paging with sbc phones at this time you need to customize the template and apply that to the phones. You need to configure the multicast receiver as well as a dss key to make the multicast pages. No additional hardware required.

If however you don’t want to use a dss key to make the pages, and want to use an extension number to make pages you can use that cyberdata device setup with 3CX using the ring group sip paging and configure the cyberdata to relay the sip page into multicast which the phones are will then play.

With the latter method, would I also need a custom template for the phones to listen to the paging server?

Correct because when provisioning a phone using the SBC method the option to include a multicast page group isn't offered.

Custom templates are sometimes necessary. To keep your template up to date, as 3CX updates the template use WInMerge to compare them.
