Need advice on ordering specific vanity DID

Just wondering if anyone knows a method to ordering a specific vanity phone number. Aside from searching for available vanity DIDs, is there a way to order a specific one that is not being used? One is being held by Verizon, another DID by Neutral Tandem, but both are not available to order according to customer service reps we spoke to. Any advise would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Generally...companies that offer numbers, are allocated certain ranges, that they can then make available to customers. On occasion numbers that were at one time ported to that provider, are no longer being used (the company that used them is no longer in business and did not take them). these are still retained, but there is usually a holding period before the numbers will be re-released to other users as they may still be listed in publications, etc.

There may lists available, on-line of which number groups are allocated to which company. It is going to be up to that company as to whether they release the number(s) to you, no mater how badly you want them. Every company will have a different policy.

Just google vanity numbers and you will find websites willing to sell them to you. Usually they will call forward them to the destination of your choice or you can port them to your preferred carrier.
