Hello everyone,

I’ve recently set up a 3CX SMB instance using the free trial version, and I’d like to test it with an external SIP provider to evaluate the platform’s performance and compatibility before moving further.

At this stage, the installation is complete and accessible via the web interface, but I’d appreciate some guidance on the next steps:

How to correctly configure and register a SIP trunk from a third-party provider

What key settings or ports need to be checked for a proper connection (NAT, firewall, etc.)

Any best practices to follow when testing inbound/outbound calls during a trial

I’m still new in the VoIP field and don’t have much experience yet, so that’s the main reason I’m reaching out to ask for advice from experienced users — I want to make sure I follow the right steps and set things up properly.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello,

What you are looking for is the proper TRIAL version (https://www.3cx.com/signup/) not the SMB version. SMB will only connect to the selected providers.

Thank you for your response.

That’s actually what’s confusing me — I initially tried to register for the trial version, but the system automatically redirected me to the SMB setup instead.

I’m not sure if I missed a step or if the trial link now defaults to the SMB plan.

If you choose up to 10 users, it takes you to the SMB option.

Still you can login into your portal.3cx.com account, and choose to add a new trial system from there.

I got these options / My question is : Since I currently have fewer than 10 users, would it still be okay if I use the SMB version just for testing purposes? :

we do not have a specific SIP provider

3CX has a list of providers at https://www.3cx.com/partners/sip-trunks/. SMB/multitenant works with the listed providers. You would need to set up an account with one, and then follow the directions to add it to 3CX. Note SMB has a different feature set than a full/separate version.

If you set up the trial using 3CX hosting you don't need to worry about installation or firewall.

we’ll go ahead and test one of the SIP trunk providers listed on 3CX partner page. It’s a good way for us to get hands-on experience and better understand how the system behaves in a real setup.

In our call center we have a team has around 8 agents dedicated to handling French clients. Our goal is to test 3CX with a SIP provider to evaluate call quality and connection reliability.

We’re currently using Ringover as VoIP solution, but lately we’ve been facing a high rate of unreachable numbers, so we’d like to see if 3CX combined with a different SIP provider could improve that.

This test is mainly to compare performance before considering a possible migration.

Depends what you wish to test.
